Presque Isle Lighthouse
Presque Isle Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located on Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The lighthouse was constructed in 1872 to guide ships navigating the waters of Lake Erie. The need for a lighthouse arose due to the growing importance of Erie as a port city and the hazards posed by the peninsula’s shallow waters and sandbars.
The lighthouse stands 57 feet tall and is built from brick and wood. Originally, the lighthouse used a Fresnel lens, a highly efficient type of lens that was first developed in the early 19th century. The tower is square at its base, transitioning to octagonal as it rises.
Today, the Presque Isle Lighthouse is a significant historical landmark and tourist attraction.

Der Leuchtturm wurde 1872 gebaut, um Schiffen den Weg durch den Eriesee zu weisen. Die Notwendigkeit eines Leuchtturms ergab sich aus der wachsenden Bedeutung von Erie als Hafenstadt und den Gefahren, die von den seichten Gewässern und Sandbänken der Halbinsel ausgingen.
Der Leuchtturm ist 57 Fuß hoch und wurde aus Ziegeln und Holz gebaut. Ursprünglich war der Leuchtturm mit einer Fresnellinse ausgestattet, einem hocheffizienten Linsentyp, der Anfang des 19.
