Robert E. Lee Monument
General Robert E. Lee, known for his brilliant strategy and bravery as leader of the Confederate armies during the Civil War, is forever momorialized on Richmond's Monument Avenue. Sitting proudly on his horse Traveler, the General commands respect from onlookers. Unveiled in 1890, the statue is first in a line of monuments facing south along the avenue.
