Schloss Friedenstein
Schloss Friedenstein im Zentrum von Gotha ist ein imposantes Barockschloss aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. Errichtet wurde es auf Geheiß Herzog Ernst I. von Sachsen-Gotha. Der Name des Schlosses weist auf den Wunsch nach Frieden nach Ende des Dreißigjährigen Krieges hin. Heute beherbergt das Schloss mehrere Museen, darunter das Ekhof-Theater, eines der ältesten Barocktheater in Europa, das auch heute noch in Betrieb ist.

Friedenstein Castle
Friedenstein Castle in the centre of Gotha is an imposing baroque palace from the 17th century. It was built at the behest of Duke Ernst I of Saxe-Gotha. The name of the castle refers to the desire for peace ("Frieden") after the end of the Thirty Years' War. Today, the castle is home to several museums, including the Ekhof Theatre, one of the oldest baroque theatres in Europe, which is still in operation today.
