Šiauliai - Schaulen

Šiauliai yra ketvirtas pagal dydį Lietuvos miestas ir svarbus šiaurinės šalies dalies centras. Miestas turi ilgą istoriją, siekiančią XIII amžių, o šiandien jis yra reikšmingas pramonės ir transporto mazgas. Visame pasaulyje ši vietovė labiausiai išgarsėjo dėl Kryžių kalno – įspūdingos piligrimystės vietos, esančios vos už kelių kilometrų nuo centro. Miesto širdyje viena seniausių Europoje pėsčiųjų bulvarų kviečia užsukti į daugybę kavinių bei muziejų. Ypač verta dėmesio balta Šv. apaštalų Petro ir Pauliaus katedra, kuri dominuoja miesto architektūroje.

Šiauliai, im Deutschen als Schaulen bekannt, ist die viertgrößte Stadt Litauens und ein bedeutendes Zentrum im Norden des Landes. Die Stadt blickt auf eine lange Geschichte zurück, die bis in das 13. Jahrhundert reicht, und dient heute als wichtiger Industrie- und Verkehrsknotenpunkt. Weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte der Ort vor allem durch den Berg der Kreuze, eine beeindruckende Pilgerstätte nur wenige Kilometer außerhalb des Zentrums. In der Innenstadt lädt die belebte Fußgängerzone, eine der ältesten in Europa, mit zahlreichen Cafés und Museen zum Verweilen ein. Besonders sehenswert ist auch die strahlend weiße Kathedrale der Heiligen Apostel Peter und Paul, die das Stadtbild architektonisch dominiert.

Šiauliai is the fourth largest city in Lithuania and a major center in the north of the country. The city looks back on a long history dating to the 13th century and serves today as an important industrial and transport hub. It gained worldwide fame primarily through the Hill of Crosses, an impressive pilgrimage site located just a few kilometers outside the center. In the city center, the lively pedestrian boulevard—one of the oldest in Europe—invites visitors to explore numerous cafes and museums. The bright white Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul is particularly worth seeing, as it architecturally dominates the cityscape.
