It was once one of the most powerful metropolises of the ancient Greek world, even rivaling the great city of Athens. The historical heart of the city beats on the idyllic island of Ortigia, which is connected to the mainland by bridges and charms visitors with its baroque palaces and narrow alleys. On the other side, the Neapolis Archaeological Park fascinates with a massive Greek theater and the legendary, ear-shaped quarry known as the "Ear of Dionysius." As the birthplace of the famous mathematician Archimedes, Syracuse continues to blend ancient spirit with vibrant Italian flair today. Since 2005, this masterpiece of history and architecture has rightfully been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Die italienische Stadt Syrakus, gelegen an der Südostküste Siziliens, blickt auf eine über 2.700 Jahre alte, faszinierende Geschichte zurück.
