Chemnitz (Karl-Marx-Stadt)

 

Chemnitz, ehemals bekannt als Karl-Marx-Stadt, ist eine sächsische Großstadt mit einer bewegten Geschichte. Ein markantes Wahrzeichen ist der monumentale Kopf von Karl Marx, von Einheimischen liebevoll "Nischel" genannt, der an die sozialistische Vergangenheit der Stadt erinnert. Obwohl Chemnitz keinen eigenen Verkehrsflughafen besitzt, wurde der historische Flughafen Chemnitz-Siegmar, der bis 1928 in Betrieb war, kürzlich auf einer Sonderbriefmarke der Deutschen Post verewigt. Chemnitz war 2025 Europäische Kulturhauptstadt.

A striking landmark is the monumental head of Karl Marx, affectionately called "Nischel" by locals, which serves as a reminder of the city's socialist past. Although Chemnitz doesn't have its own commercial airport, the historic Chemnitz-Siegmar Airport, which operated until 1928, was recently immortalized on a special stamp by Deutsche Post. Chemnitz was the European Capital of Culture in 2025.
