One of the city's most prominent landmarks is the Story Bridge, an impressive steel cantilever bridge spanning the Brisbane River. Opened in 1940, the bridge is the longest of its kind in Australia and even offers adventure climbs today. In the heart of the city centre stands the historic Old Treasury Building, a magnificent example of Italian Renaissance architecture. Constructed between 1886 and 1928, the building originally served as a governmental precinct before its conversion into a casino and hotel.
