The Russian city of Astrakhan is located in the south of the country, picturesquely situated in the vast delta of the Volga River near its confluence with the Caspian Sea. Due to its strategic location on numerous islands and many waterways, this historic metropolis is often referred to as the "Venice of the Volga." The undisputed architectural jewel of the city is the impressive 16th-century Astrakhan Kremlin, whose white walls and magnificent cathedrals bear witness to a turbulent past. For centuries, the city served as a major hub for Eurasian trade, where the cultures of Europe and Asia peacefully converged. Today, Astrakhan is world-renowned primarily as the center of caviar production, with the region being considered the traditional capital of sturgeon fishing. Furthermore, the surrounding area fascinates nature lovers from all over the world, who come in summer to admire the unique natural spectacle of blooming lotus fields in the Volga Delta.

Die russische Stadt Astrachan liegt im Süden des Landes, malerisch im riesigen Delta der Wolga nahe ihrer Mündung in das Kaspische Meer. Aufgrund ihrer strategischen Lage auf zahlreichen Inseln und der vielen Wasserwege wird die historische Metropole oft auch als das „Venedig der Wolga“ bezeichnet. Das unbestrittene architektonische Juwel der Stadt ist der beeindruckende Astrachaner Kreml aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, dessen weiße Mauern und prachtvolle Kathedralen von einer bewegten Vergangenheit kündigen. Jahrhundertelang galt die Stadt als ein bedeutender Knotenpunkt des eurasischen Handels, an dem die Kulturen Europas und Asiens friedlich aufeinandertrafen. Heute ist Astrachan vor allem weltweit als das Zentrum der Kaviarproduktion bekannt, da die Region als die traditionelle Hauptstadt des Störfangs gilt. Zudem fasziniert das Umland Naturliebhaber aus aller Welt, die im Sommer das einzigartige Naturschauspiel der blühenden Lotosfelder im Wolgadelta bewundern möchten.
